Fine-scale movement of juvenile Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus) during aggregations in the lower Saint John River Basin, New Brunswick, Canada 1. Margaret M. Whitmore, Matthew K. Litvak. Mount Allison University, Department of Biology.   Cooke DW, Leach SD, Isely JJ () Behaviour and lack of upstream passage of shortnose sturgeon at a hydroelectric facility and navigation lock complex. In: Van Winkle W, Anders PJ, Secor DH, Dixon DA (eds) Biology, management, and protection of North American Sturgeon. American Fisheries Society, Sympos Bethesda, MD, pp –

The book aims at synthesizing our current knowledge of Acipenser sturio and its management. This species, one of the most widespread sturgeon species all over Western Europe ranging from the Black Sea to the Baltic, is now on the verge of extinction.   Juvenile Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus) movement and distribution varies seasonally within the lower Saint John River use acoustic telemetry to track coarse-scale movement and a network-based approach to develop metrics describing distribution and movement patterns of juvenile Atlantic sturgeon tagged in two rivers, the Saint John and Kennebecasis rivers.

This paper reviews the life history and habitat requirements of sturgeons, alternatives for their protection and restoration in North America, and a typical protection and enhancement program in the Columbia River. Sturgeon are uniquely adapted to mainstem river systems which are characterized by their large scale, diverse habitats, and dynamic nature. This paper reviews five of the eight species of acipenseriforms that occur in China, chiefly those of the Amur and Yangtze rivers. Kaluga Huso dauricus and Amur sturgeon Acipenser schrenckii are endemic to the Amur River. Both species still support fisheries, but stocks are declining due to overfishing. Acipenseriformes of the Yangtze River are primarily threatened by hydroelectric dams that.

North American sturgeons: biology and aquaculture potential: papers from a symposium on the biology and management of sturgeon, held during the th Annual Meeting of the American Fisheries Society at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A., August[Frederick P Binkowski; Sergei I Doroshov; American Fisheries Society.

Biology, Management, and Protection of North American Sturgeon By Webster Van Winkle, Paul J. Anders, David H. Secor, and Douglas A. Dixon, eds. This multi-authored symposium volume addresses the vulnerability and continuing decline of numerous sturgeon species and stocks and the intense efforts to manage and protect them.

The Acipenseriformes (sturgeon and paddlefish)live in the Northern Hemisphere; half of thesespecies live in Europe, mostly in thePonto-Caspian region, one third in NorthAmerica, and the rest in East Asia and reproduce in freshwater and most of themmigrate to the sea, either living in brackishwater (Caspian, Azov, Black and Baltic Seas) orin full seawater on the oceanic.

To inform the public on all aspects of the status and biology of sturgeons, requirements for their effective species protection, and needs for appropriate management.

The tools to achieve this objective include the use of adequate and modern publications and means of communication as well as the organisation of international conferences.
